As the design director of Perkins&Will’s L.A. studio, Yan Krymsky promotes the idea that design is a process by which meaning is discovered through geometric and material exploration.

For many who live outside Southern California, the Watts neighborhood of Los Angeles is remembered for the well-documented riots of 1965, a six-day period of civil unrest that brought 34 fatalities, numerous injuries, and widespread arrests.
Architecture can’t be art. It has a different role in society. But architecture should embrace the call of art, especially public architecture.
