ULI Europe has officially launched ULI Denmark, its 15th national council. Jesper Bo Hansen, head of corporate finance at Catella, will be the chair, serving a two-year term on a voluntary basis, and will be joined by an executive committee of local industry leaders.
There is still time to register for ULI Europe’s flagship event, the ULI Europe Conference, taking place February 8–10, for the first time as a virtual event. Keynote speakers participating in the conference include Lord Norman Foster, founder of Foster + Partners; Carlos Moreno, associate professor at Sorbonne University Paris and a leading proponent of the 15-minute city; Peter Frankopan, professor of global history at Worcester College, Oxford University; Philippe Close, mayor of Brussels; and Ric Lewis, executive chairman of Tristan Capital.
The city of Toronto should take action now to develop a long-term housing strategy to retrofit more than 800 private rental towers to create sustainable buildings, according to a report released by ULI Advisory Services.
We are grieved to announce that Phillip Horne, ULI Foundation president and chief advancement officer, passed away unexpectedly in August. Horne is remembered by his ULI friends and staff as an individual of the highest caliber.
The ULI Center for Sustainability and Economic Performance has announced the addition of three new members to its executive board from industry-leading organizations such as JBG Smith, ZOM, HR&A.
ULI has appointed David Faulkner as its new president for the Asia Pacific region. Faulkner, who most recently was managing director, valuation and advisory services, at Colliers International in Hong Kong, takes the position immediately, leading the Institute’s activities across Asia Pacific. Faulkner will lead members and staff to deliver impact programs such as Advisory Services and UrbanPlan, as well as the region’s virtual and in-person events program, including the REImagine virtual forum, the ULI Asia Pacific Convivium, and the ULI Asia Pacific Summit, which next year will be held in Tokyo in May.
Marnix Galle, executive chairman of Belgian developer Immobel, has been appointed ULI Europe Chairman, serving on a voluntary basis for a two-year term starting on July 1, 2020, and will join the ULI Global Board of Directors. He succeeds outgoing Europe Chairman Juergen Fenk, member of the executive board, SIGNA Holding GmbH.
In 1970, a group of visionary ULI leaders—the original 17 Foundation governors, led by ULI past president Robert Nahas—sought the most effective way to elevate the Institute’s position in the transformative improvement of communities worldwide.
Jonathan H. Brinsden, chief executive officer of Houston-based real estate investment and development firm Midway, has been appointed ULI Americas Chairman. Brinsden, who succeeds Jack Chandler, founder of Majesteka Investment Holdings, will serve on a voluntary basis for a two-year term and will join the ULI Global Board of Directors.
ULI and Hines have announced a new competition for graduate real estate students across Europe, expanding on its successful 18-year competition partnership in the Americas. The new ULI Hines Student Competition – Europe will see teams of four students from pan-European universities working on a case study that tests their understanding of real estate finance, investment, and development, as well as social and environmental issues, to present a solution for a timely land use challenge.
