I am very pleased to report that ULI’s recent Spring Meeting in Vancouver was an extraordinary success.

The hotel sector is coming back slowly in the United States, led by business travelers, but the majority of the growth in the full-service hotel market is overseas, said Bill Marriott, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Marriott International at ULI’s Fall Meeting. By many measurements, the recent 2013 ULI Spring Meeting was a major success—record-breaking attendance; content-rich sessions; news coverage from the largest-ever press contingent for our Spring Meeting; record-high sponsorships; and a succession of dynamic keynote speakers emphasizing the rewards of innovative business strategies.

Landscape architect Peter Walker, founder of PWP Landscape Architecture in Berkeley, California, has been chosen as the 2012 recipient of the ULI J.C. Nichols Prize for Visionaries in Urban Development, the Institute’s highest honor.

Four teams—including two from Harvard University, one from the University of Maryland, and a joint team from the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee and the University of Wisconsin at Madison—have been selected as the finalists for the ULI Hines Competition.

The 2015 ULI Fall Meeting, set for October 5–8 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, is shaping up to be one of the most successful convenings in the organization’s history.
