Michael F. Kelly, a ULI Trustee, Foundation Governors, and a former president of ULI, passed away at the age of 91 in May. Kelly was chairman of Marquette Partners until his retirement.
Anthony “Tony” E. Mansour Sr., who was best known for developing El Dorado Hills, a master-planned community near Sacramento, California, passed away on June 5. He was 84.
Clare De Briere, executive vice president and regional manager in Los Angeles for Skanska USA Commercial Development, has been appointed chair of ULI’s Americas Executive Committee. She will serve on a voluntary basis for a two-year term starting July 1, and has also joined the Institute’s Global Board of Directors.
Members and staff from five ULI district councils—three in the United States and two in Canada—gathered during ULI’s Spring Meeting in San Diego. Over the next 18 months, these five ULI district councils, which make up the Institute’s District Council Partnerships for Health Equity group, will seek to further understand and acknowledge historical inequities and racial discrimination within the land use industry.
Tukwila in South King County, a suburb of Seattle, is a diverse, growing, immigrant-rich community that struggles with its reputation as a high crime area. It is one of two neighborhoods that ULI Northwest is setting its sights on for its ULI Building Healthy Places Partnership project.
Learning from the past is at the crux of ULI British Columbia’s focus. That district council aims to facilitate research to help provide solutions for the development community to “break down the barriers to housing and other factors that have historically been obstacles for Indigenous health and success,” according to Sheryl Peters, provincial director of redevelopment at BC Housing.
ULI and Hines, the global real estate firm, have announced details about the finalist teams and the jury for the third annual ULI Hines Student Competition – Europe. Six multidisciplinary teams have been selected from a range of applications from across Europe to participate in this prestigious student competition for integrated and multidisciplinary urban regeneration. The teams have been drawn from an eclectic mix of universities, business schools, and other education establishments to encourage diversity in the real estate sector.
