With so much about the built environment now under scrutiny, the Urban Land Institute’s work has never been more necessary or relevant.
Thirty-two professionals in real estate development, planning, design, engineering, finance, and health care from across the country have been selected to participate in the first cohort of the ULI Health Leaders Network, a new program designed to empower real estate and land use professionals with the skills, knowledge, and networks to improve health outcomes in their professional practice and communities. The Health Leaders Network is supported by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the Colorado Health Foundation, and ULI Foundation governor Randall Lewis.
ULI’s Building Healthy Places Initiative has announced the 2017 participants in the ULI/Randall Lewis Health Mentorship Program, which is generously supported by Randall Lewis, a ULI trustee. Participants are matched with ULI full members and will attend a product council meeting and the Building Healthy Places Interest Forum.

Toledo, Ohio, has recently experienced a series of economic wins that are resulting in the rapid redevelopment of its urban core. In July, the first UrbanPlan for Public Officials workshop to be delivered to a single jurisdiction was held at the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library, with a diverse group of local decision makers engaged in the program, including the commissioner of housing, the chief building officer, and members of the planning commission, citizens’ boards, and city council.
Newark’s Hahne & Co. Building, Boston’s Mosaic on the Riverway, and Austin’s Wildflower Terrace were selected by the ULI Terwilliger Center for Housing as the winners of the 2017 Jack Kemp Excellence in Affordable and Workforce Housing Award. The annual award, which honors developments that ensure housing affordability for people in a broad range of incomes, is given to developments in which all or a portion of the units are affordable to households earning up to 120 percent of the area median income.
