A message from ULI Americas Chairman Trish Healy and ULI Americas CEO Ralph Boyd.
The devastating loss of life and vast property destruction resulting from the flooding in Houston is almost impossible to comprehend. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the people of this great city and to those around the nation who are responding with rescue and relief aid.
As this tragedy has unfolded in the past days, several of you have contacted ULI wanting to know how our organization can help. We want you to know we have reached out to our staff and leadership in Houston and thankfully, while they are safe, the needs of the overall community are enormous. In the short-term, everyone agrees that what Houston needs first and foremost is relief aid. We encourage you to give generously to the many organizations providing first response efforts such as the American Red Cross, Salvation Army, Catholic Charities USA, and Global Giving.
Ultimately, there will be a massive rebuilding effort that will take place in the months and years to come. One of ULI’s great strengths is the long-term focus it brings to urban development, and when the focus turns from relief to recovery and rebuilding, we stand ready to fully leverage our members’ land use expertise to help Houston rebuild for the future. ULI has historically provided this help in the form of Advisory Service Panels, supported by the ULI Foundation. With input from our ULI members in Texas, it is likely that ULI will conduct a similar effort in Houston at the appropriate time. Your support for the ULI Foundation will help in this regard.
For now, the focus is on relief for the victims. We encourage you to give generously to support the organizations best able to provide immediate aid.
