In Brief: U.S. Parking App Usage Surpasses Pre-Pandemic Levels

According to data provider Apptopia, mobile applications, such as SpotHero and ParkMobile, have now exceeded their January 2020 levels by 6.2 percent in terms of monthly average U.S. users.

According to data provider Apptopia, mobile applications, such as SpotHero and ParkMobile, have now exceeded their January 2020 levels by 6.2 percent in terms of monthly average U.S. users. These services allow users to pay in some cases reserve a specific spot using their mobile phone.

By comparison, transit apps are still lagging behind the same time frame by almost 39 percent.

Much like online grocery shopping, it is possible that some percentage of consumers have made a structural change in the last year, preferring to pay for parking via an app rather than either using cash or credit cards as they might in the past. Booking a specific spot or location in advance also could give peace of mind, saving gas and potentially time, rather than circling in traffic looking for a spot.
