ULI Fall Meeting attendees got the opportunity to tour the neighborhood, which offers spectacular lakeside views, a growing entertainment district, and a thriving food and cultural scene.
This morning, 2021 ULI Fall meeting attendees toured the area surrounding one of the oldest professional ballparks in the United States, Chicago’s Wrigley Field, which has been home to the Chicago Cubs baseball team for more than a century. When the Ricketts family took over Cubs ownership in 2009, it decided not only to rehabilitate the aging stadium, but also to turn a former parking lot next door into a mixed-use entertainment district bringing office, retail, and hotel uses to the area, as well as much-needed open space called Gallagher Way.
This morning in Chicago’s South Loop, ULI members were treated to a tour of two historic and iconic buildings that have recently undergone major redevelopment and renovation: The Willis Tower and the Old Post Office.
Senior housing occupancy increased in the third quarter of 2021 to 80.1 percent according to new National Investment Center for Seniors Housing & Care data. A significant rebound in demand and modest increase in supply contributed to the occupancy rate increase.
The New York Convention Center Operating Corporation announced the completion of the Javits Center’s new rooftop event space as part of its $1.5 billion expansion project on Manhattan’s West Side. The farm and event space, along with several other sustainable upgrades, builds on the success of the convention center’s robust sustainability program.

ULI Greenprint Center for Building Performance’s annual report found a 12.4 percent reduction in carbon emissions in 2020 compared with an average 3.5 percent fall in previous years. In addition, the report found that real estate owners took advantage of reduced occupancy during the pandemic to double the implementation of energy efficiency projects.
The San Francisco-based Swig Company has announced that it has obtained WELL Health-Safety Ratings through the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI) for the majority of its U.S. portfolio of multitenant office buildings. This means the WELL rating is now a feature in almost eight million square feet of office space in New York, Los Angeles, and the San Francisco Bay Area.
