Trish Riggs is a public relations consultant and freelancer with Keadle-Riggs Communications. Riggs was a senior vice president with the Urban Land Institute from 2005 to 2019.

A new report from the ULI Greenprint Center for Building Performance shows that several of the world’s leading commercial real estate owners and managers are making significant progress in reducing energy consumption, carbon emissions, and water use in their buildings, demonstrating a 3.4 percent reduction in energy consumption, a 3.3 percent reduction in carbon emissions, and a 4.3 percent reduction in water use between 2015 and 2016.
Thirteen real estate development projects from around the globe have been selected as winners of ULI’s 2017–2018 Global Awards for Excellence, including eight projects in the United States, two in Canada, one in Europe, and two in Asia.
In a keynote address to 2017 Fall Meeting attendees, ULI Global Chairman Tom Toomey emphasized that the overarching goal of the Institute’s leadership is to ensure that ULI delivers consistently high value to members.
ULI Americas Chairman Trish Healy welcomed attendees to the 2017 ULI Fall Meeting with remarks affirming the Institute’s role as an industry leader. “Everything ULI is, everything ULI does is about member leadership. As a ULI member, each of you is de facto an industry leader, providing our communities access to the responsible land use expertise they need,” Healy said.
ULI’s 2017 Fall Meeting began on an inspirational note with a gala hosted by the ULI Foundation to honor longtime leading member Roy Hilton March.
ULI and the National League of Cities (NLC) have announced that mayors from four cities—Columbus, Ohio; Richmond, Virginia; Salt Lake City, Utah and Tucson, Arizona—have been selected as the 2018 class of Daniel Rose Land Use Fellows by the Rose Center for Public Leadership.
ULI has joined with 127 U.S. mayors, along with the Trust for Public Land and the National Recreation and Park Association in launching a historic “10-minute walk” parks advocacy campaign, establishing the ambitious goal that all Americans should live within a 10-minute walk (or half-mile) of a high-quality park or green space. This bipartisan group includes mayors from all across the country and represents cities large and small, including America’s four largest cities.
Internationally acclaimed transportation entrepreneur Robin Chase, cofounder and former CEO of Zipcar, the largest car-sharing company in the world, has been named the 2017 recipient of the ULI J.C. Nichols Prize for Visionaries in Urban Development.
State governments, in partnership with cities and other local jurisdictions, can and should do more to promote housing development and choice through smarter local land use policies and incentives, according to a new ULI report.
Newark’s Hahne & Co. Building, Boston’s Mosaic on the Riverway, and Austin’s Wildflower Terrace were selected by the ULI Terwilliger Center for Housing as the winners of the 2017 Jack Kemp Excellence in Affordable and Workforce Housing Award. The annual award, which honors developments that ensure housing affordability for people in a broad range of incomes, is given to developments in which all or a portion of the units are affordable to households earning up to 120 percent of the area median income.
