MIT, Harvard Teams Win 2019 ULI Hines Student Competition in Cincinnati
A redevelopment plan for a Cincinnati site presented by a team from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University has taken top honors in the 2019 ULI Hines Student Competition, an ideas competition that provides graduate students the opportunity to devise a comprehensive design and development scheme for a large-scale site in an urban area.

Four Teams Selected as Finalists in ULI Hines Competition
A graduate student team from the University of Cincinnati, two teams from the University of Texas at Austin, and a team with students from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University have been selected as the four finalists for the 17th annual ULI Hines Student Competition, an ideas competition that challenges graduate students to devise a comprehensive design and development scheme for an actual site in an urban area. This year’s competition involves the redevelopment of a site in Cincinnati comprising portions of a highway, the central business district, and the central riverfront along the Ohio River.

ULI Names Two Leaders for Americas Region
ULI has announced a new chairman and a new president for its Americas region, which serves the Institute’s members in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Global Board member and ULI Treasurer John R. “Jack” Chandler, founder of Majesteka Investments Holdings and chief investment officer and board member for Reterro Inc., and former managing director and chairman of BlackRock’s global real estate business in New York City, has been named chairman of the Americas region, a volunteer role that includes service as chairman of the Americas Executive Committee. Multifamily industry leader Gwyneth Jones Cote, who most recently served as chief operating officer for Bell Partners, has joined ULI’s staff as the president of the Americas region.

Expansion of Product Council Network Opens Up Member Participation and Areas of Focus
ULI’s Global Strategic Plan emphasizes strengthening member engagement by providing more opportunities to participate in the Institute’s unique member networks, including the highly popular Product Council network. Nine Product Councils—including five new ones and four additional flights to existing councils—were added during FY 2018, opening up participation to 228 members who had never before served on a council, as well as 98 members who transferred membership or rejoined councils.
