Daniel Lobo

Daniel Lobo is the Senior Director of Awards, Education and Advisory Group, for the Urban Land Institute, a nonprofit education and research institute that focuses on issues of land use, real estate and urban development. The mission of the Institute is to provide leadership in the responsible use of land and in creating and sustaining thriving communities worldwide. Prior to joining ULI Mr. Lobo was an independent consultant working as project manager for a variety of urban and research initiatives, in particular facilitating open cultural urban interventions internationally, and new media research. Earlier he worked extensively as project manager for the Center for Communities by Design at the American Institute of Architects, and as Urban Designer at Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill LLP. He holds a MSc City Design and Social Science from the London School of Economics, and a BA (Honors) from the School of Architecture and Interior Design at London Metropolitan University.

The redevelopment of London’s historic King’s Cross Station was completed in March 2012. Launched in 2005, the remodeling project has improved passenger facilities, made operational activities more efficient, and increased retail opportunities. The project adapted and reused the train shed and range buildings, restored the station’s previously obscured facade, and added the new, visually striking Western Concourse that serves as the centerpiece of the remodeling project.
Located in the southwestern Chinese city of Chengdu, the Sino-Ocean Taikoo Li Chengdu project is a large-scale, retail-led development consisting of an open-plan, lane-driven retail complex; the historic Daci Temple House; a boutique hotel with 100 guest rooms and 42 serviced apartments; and Pinnacle One, a Grade A office tower.
Spanning two full city blocks, City Market at O (CMO) is a mixed-use redevelopment project in the District of Columbia’s historic Shaw neighborhood. CMO has catalyzed nearly $1 billion of new investment in Shaw and helped stabilize the area. A historic 19th-century market, repurposed into a state-of-the-art Giant Food grocery store, serves as the project’s cornerstone.
Following a period of successful operations and subsequent decline, the Beaugrenelle shopping center in the 15th arrondissement of Paris was demolished to make way for a new-generation venue by making the most of the existing raised slab—a significant constraint left over from the utopian style of architecture of the 1970s.
Completed in May 2013, GLP Misato III is a state-of-the-art logistics facility in Greater Tokyo in the Saitama Prefecture. The five-story facility, with a total floor area of 1 million square feet (93,000 sq m), is equipped with dual ramps allowing service vehicles to drive to each floor, demonstrating efficiency of land use in a country where land is severely constrained.
Originally opened in 1952 as a fresh goods market, Mercado do Bom Sucesso is a renovated public building that hosts a shopping center, offices, a hotel, and a fresh food market.
Located in Portland, Oregon’s Pearl District, the Brewery Blocks mixed-use development is a thriving and sustainable urban community.

In 1998, Mayor Richard M. Daley established a partnership with Chicago’s philanthropic community called the Millennium Park Foundation (MPF), a 501c3 not-for-profit corporation, and together they produced Millennium Park, which opened July 16, 2004.
