It is now 2011 and social media no longer remains on the fringes of the professional world. Many companies -- who originally utilized social media only to build awareness and establish a presence in the social media universe -- are now incorporating the social medium into their overall communication plan and standard operations.

In the past two years, real estate pros have used photo and video sharing to improve sales, urban planners and developers to crowdsource and facilitate public involvement, architecture firms to profile a specific project, urban scholars to establish themselves as thought leaders, amongst many other user groups and usages.
